Post subject: New Monitor Reply with quote
My dad acquired a free 19 inch flat panel Viewsonic monitor from my uncle today and it is a beauty... pictures good, takes up WAY less space, looks better on the desk...

Theres no free lunch though...

Anytime I try to do anything remotely related to changing screen resolutions, the screen goes black a stays black. The only way so far to remedy this is to unplug the screen and plug it back in again.

This has a major implication for FA/FAF... Although the resolution is the same (1024/768), it does the black thing whenever I start or end a session in the FAF program.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you simply have the wrong driver for the monitor in your windoes. Have you updated your windows settings to reflect the new monitor type and driver?

Well last night I tried to get a fix by installing a signed driver as per your advice, but it still freezes with a black screen...

That sounds like your new monitor is a single sync monitor...

What type of monitor is it set to in windows now?

We'll I've looked at all the display properties stuff and I dont know anything about that kind of setting. Could you please elaborate?

It knows that its a Viewsonic VX900-2 on the right graphics controllers but I dont know anything about the sync setting.

point the mouse at the main screen where there are no icons...

1. right click and select properties
2. select the settings tab
3. hit the advanced button
4. select the monitor tab
5. select the properties button.

You now have a choice of general tab and driver tab, to setup the monitor.

This should allow you to set the proper monitor and also select its proper refresh rate as well...
