I have also been experimenting with FA.

I have noticed that the AI in FA always only release one or two flares at a time and never manuever etc.
This work around will hopefully improve the feel of the game a bit:

Here are two experiments you might want to do:
1. Pick a couple of evenly matched aircraft and weapons
2. Decrease the range/hit probability by 20-30%
3. Increase the resistance to chaff and flare

Or

3. Decrease the number of chaff/flare for both aircraft (imagine that each time an aircraft releases chaff or flare it is a whole package of chaff and an evasive routine).

If find these modifications have the following effects:
- The probability of an AI surviving an attack is much more variable
- The challenge of timeing the release of chaff and flare is much harder to judge
- The overall kill ratios and combat is more realistic
- There is much more of a tense, white-nuckled, challenging and cautious feel to combat. Improving immersion greatly.

Let me know what you think if you try it out!

The number of countermeasures and maneuvers taken by AI aircraft are controlled joinly within the sourcecode and in AI cfg files we recently have uncovered. Experimentation with making changes to these files are ongoing...

Have you any suggestions on what you would like these aircraft to do?

Also Kap's escort jammers have a larger RCS and chaff that is 1000 times more effective then standard chaff, to allow them to be a bigger target then human contolled aircraft so they can be AI flown as lead and allow you to make it through the SAM belts without being the main target.

What else do you think you would like to see AI aircraft do?

if they would just reliably kick out ECM I'd be happy. Dont know how many times I have seen a winger shot down with no reaction what-so-ever.

Yea, unfortunatley you have to babysit your AI aircraft right now, becasue if you dont tell them to evade manually they fly blind...

This will always be a problem, to some extent, without the sourcecode to alter it, but we are still working on the AI cfg files to try to get a change of reaction that way....

"evade manually" is there a keystroke for that or are you just talkin about the "break left" "break right" etc commands?

No, unfortunately there isnt a single key...

I am taking break left, engage right, break low... etc...

That is why all the FAF Campaign Missions I built were all based on elements of 2, so you didnt get confused or give other AI wingmen wrong commands...

If at all possible, it would be cool for a few things to be added.

1. Wingmen don't 'zombie' through SAMs, AAA, AAMs, etc. It's pretty confusing babysitting them.
2. The enemy/Allied AI should probably manuver more. Too many enemy planes fly straight into the Slammers.
3. Wingmen should NOT drop to the deck when told to bug out over enemy territory. Too many times, they'll be damaged, ordered back, and blown out of the sky by an AK.

Raising minimum altitudes for AI bugout shouldnt be difficult...

Working on the other two will be along the same lines as other AI editing... hit or miss though the AI cfg files...

Hopefully we will make a breakthough in the remianing 8 weeks, if not, at least we tried and we can add it to FAF NATO workload!

BTW Great to have you back here posting Burro! Very Happy

Actually if you tell your AI pilots to bugout they dont stack anymore, they all drop down to min altitudes and fly home, and real slow at that...

Really a dumb thing to do. They get shot at my all sorts of AAA and shorads...

They should all stay in formation with each other and fly out at medium altitudes and at high mil power...

That is what I am hoping to fix, at some point...
