well i voted for Mig-21 as it has been around since the vietnam war and is still used by many "satelite" nations of the former Soviet Union and its allies. i would have personally picked the A6M2 "zero". but that's not one of the choices. the Corsair is ruled out as not a plethora of them were built in fact Hellcats and Wildcat vastly out numbered the good ol' Sair. The Il-2 and F-86 im not to sure about. and the Falcon is all over but there is no real push for thousands of them to fill the sky. the p-51 was also in service for many countries but was dropped almost imediatly when jets came of age. _________________ If you can read this.... than your eyesight is fine and you can stay on the computer. Just so you know...
The P-51 served in the USAF until 1953 and in the Air National Guard until 1957, also in foreign airforces until the 1960s...
It flew combat missions in large numbers in Korea until 1952...

Ok I have kept this poll open as long as I can stand it!!!
The answer is....
The Soviet IL-2 Sturmovick!!
Yes I know it is hard to believe, but the largest number of a single aircraft ever produced was by the Soviet Union in WWII...
Over 36,000 IL-2s were built until the aircraft was replaced on the line by the IL-10 after the war...
This is more then any other aircraft ever produced by a huge margin!
The winners are... Forsaken Outlaw and the 4 others that voted with him!
Good jog guys!

Quote: | After the war the Il-2 could be found in service with several Eastern European countries for some years, but most of the Il-2/10 planes were soon chopped up on central order after the advent of military jet era. Only a handful of Il-2 survive to this day, including museum rebuilds of crashed airframes. In recent years several Il-2 wrecks have been located and recovered from Balaton, a large, shallow Hungarian lake, which is located near the hstorical site of a large WWII panzer battle. |

Quote: | Its service debut was during the later stages of the Stalingrad encirclement and it was the most numerically important of the Il-2 models. Il-2 production totalled 36,136 by the end of 1944 when it was replaced on the production lines by the Il-10. Some 11,200 were built in 1943 and production averaged over 1.5 hourly in the early months of 1944!
But despite the enormous numbers built at no time did VVS stocks ever exceed 6000 aircraft due to the exceedingly high level of attrition, both to combat and non-combat causes. |
It was the Model-T of aviation as far as production was concerned. _________________ FAF/FA-2 FM Wizard
