I have created realeastic Outer, Middle, and (optional)inner beacon markers for civilain airfields for use in FA. This will give you complete foul weather approach for older (non ILS HUD) aircraft...

I had created them a few years back, but didnt then know how to alter the shapes of the towers to mimic the real thing at that time...

I also did not, at that time, know how to edit the sound range for the radio beacon...

But both of these issues have been solved now...

These towers will now guide you into the active landing runway for civilain airports and will only be heard in your cockpit if you are on the right glide path and within the proper max altitude for approach...

I would absolutley love to figure out a way to add additional NAVAIDS to FAF! Very Happy

NAVAIDS

First NDB's Non directional Beacon is a sustained signal that the pilot can use to direct himself to an area. NDB's litter the country side from when Navigational Aids first started they could be at an airfield or just near a city to aid in navigation.

Second VOR's Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range. Uses a freqency like what was stated above 30 hz variable signal superinposed on a carrier signal. These AIDs were to replace NDB's they can be found at airports or on route near IFR routes.

Third TACAN Tactical Air Navagation. This AID uses pulse technology. Pulses are spaced at 12 ms where radar pulse are spaced at 15 ms. A carrier wave is transmitted and there are pulses sent out to indicated North and 12 Aux bursts. Total pulses sent out are 7200 ppm. Another feature the TACAN has the VOR doesn't is DME Distance Measuring Equipment. Since the radio can send and recieve at the same time it picks up interigation signals from aircraft with the DME equipment. These random pulses from the aircraft get sent picked up then sent back the time enroute determines distance.

Forth ILS Instrument Landing System. Depending on the category of ILS you can have systems that will guide the aircraft all the way to the ground or to 100 ft of the ground. The system consists of 2 radio sets. Localizer and Glide Slope. The more modern of the systems use dipole antennas which are polarized. The localizer consists of 12 antenna groups that transmit one carrier wave but halve are transmiting 150 hz and the other 90 hz. Depending on which side of centerline you are on will determine how much of one freq you'll see. Glide Slope works on the same principle. Depending on if your high or low will determine what freq you see.

Fifth MILS Microwave Instrument Landing System. This system has been proposed to replace most of the ILS systems in the FAA. Works on Microwave technology simular to the ILS above.

PS useless info to some maybe interesting to others Just thought I would contribute
