The Leo II A6M has both spaced armour addons overtop of Chobham armour and yet the German Army feels the need to cage the entire vehicle to protect it from RPG fire. I thought the entire reason for the spaced armour addons was to defeat these rockets?

You seem having thought it right, CAG - has that pic taken in Afghanistan, perhaps? This could explain many things...

Of course its in Afghanistan... Seems to me that the Leo II is overrated if it requires this cage systems.

The only US vehicle that uses this is the new US Army wheeled Stryker vehicles that have thin armour compared to a tank!

I dont see this on US M1 Abrams or British Challenger II... Confused

Indeed. Maybe they have thought to go for some "friendly" walk abroad.
And then some IPs pretend to come to TV and talk about our safety there...

Bah. Mad

I'm guessing the cage disrupts an RPG warhead to the point where it does minimal $$$ damage to the expensive laminate armors.
The laminates are to defeat sabot penetrators and single and double headed self-forging fused warheads that go off before they actually
contact the armor.

Yes they cause the RPG to go off outside the range when its copper jet can attack the armour, but this was the reason the Germany Army upgraded all their Leo IIs to use external spaced armour ontop of the laminate armour, so it would take the blast instead. These panels are very inexxpensive and easy to replace...

Guess they forgot to check to see if they actually worked or not! Caging ontop of spaced armour, ontop of laminate armour...

I wonder what this beast weights in at now! LMAO!!!
