I have completed the new shape for the SU-17/20/22 Fitters...

The new shape has functional swing wings, and improved skin and a raised fuselage behind the cockpit. This has got to have been the most difficult shape I have ever worked on...

I created it from the Su-7 Fitter in the sim, improved it and added a sort of swing wing to it...

The wing will only go fully forward or fully back, I think this was how the aircraft was origially configured, using the swing wing only for landings. It adds lift to the aircraft and reduces approach speeds so it is fully functional...

Here are a series of screenshots (Sorry for the 800 x 600 but I am having an issue with 1024 x 769 cockpit failures.)...

Pictures show the wings swept and fully forward for landing...

As you can see there still are some issues...

I have to fix the nose gear and the aircaft attitude when landed (add more nose up) and add the nose probes. Plus complete some more detail on the alumin skin, then build the camo versions of the skin as well...

All this is minor though compared to the problems I had building this SOB!

Laughing Laughing

I hope you liked it, it will be in this release of FAF...

I like the skin, the aluminum finish is pretty good.

Thanks! But arent you going to comment on the swing wings?!?!? Razz

BTW I forgot to mention, right now there is no way to fix the shadow. Maybe down the road in another relase, but not right now. I need to study how to make the shadow animated to match the shape, by comparing shadows of other swing wing aircraft...

I also have visibility issues with the wing fences. It has to do with the polygons I built them from... Dont know how to over come those either, but give me time and I will figure it out!

Yeah, that's also impressive, I can definitely say.

You say you built the shape from the Su-7, which I don't remember being a swing wing shape. I thought you had to work with shapes that already had swing wings.

CAG, the shape looks excellent - it's great to see the functioning swing-wings on another aircraft. Very cool.

I fixed another issue I had not addressed on this aircraft...

That being the location of the contrails off the wingtips. Obviously their current location would be a problem if flying the aircraft with the wings swept forward because the wingtips would not be in the same location so the wingtip contrails would just hang out in space away from the wing tips and look ridiclous.

So...

I decided to move them inwards to contrail off the wing fences instead. That part of the shape never changes position! So it solved the issue and actually looks pretty good with either the wings swept back or swept forward...

I will get to work on adding more details to the skins such as the nose probes, the various bulges and other wing fences and additional warning notices. Plus ECM antennas on the tail...

Good looking plane. Very Happy I read you are going to rework the plane's body with bulges, that's good. The orginal body shape in FA looks like a tube .

Regards,
Pappy

I already raised the fuselage to the height of the canopy like the Su-17/20/22 has and will be adding those skin improvements over the next few days...
