I chose the P38 because of reliability, low losses should have a good effect on the kill ratio, given a moderate number of kills. _________________

I voted Mustang cause I'm not aware of ANYTHING shooting it down much at all.
The Hellcat must have had a crushingly high ratio too once thay got them to the Pacific. I think Corsairs may have spent too much time in Marine suppport service rather than air to air to get a high ratio, they took a while to get comfortable with carrier landings as I recall. _________________ FAF/FA-2 FM Wizard

The P-38 does make sense, due to its twin engines...
Only time will tell on this poll whether you are correct or not!

The P-51 is the obvious choice, due to its use as an escort fighter and long range strike...
However, many were indeed lost in combat, but she received many (MANY) kills to her credit as well...
A logical choice... By the time the poll ends we shall see whether logic entered into it or not!

Ok I have not seen any new votes or new comments in a while now...
So let me answer this one for you guys...
The answer is the F6F Hellcat! The F6F has 5121 aerial kills and only 251 losses while in combat...
That is a 20 to 1 kill ratio...
Best of any aircraft in World War II!
One person voted for her, though I dont know who it was...

Yes...
The Navy enjoyed a very high kill to loss ratio the entire war.
The F6F Hellcat decimated the Zero in the Pacific...
In the Marianas 'Turkey Shoot' Task Force 58 Hellcat pilots destroyed over 400 Japanese aircraft with the loss of only 19 Hellcats...
This type of ratio played itself out the entire war...
