B-52 have been in service since 1954, and that is more than 50 years. And at the same time, B-52 will reminds in our US Air Force for another 40 to 45 years and please correct me if I am wrong on that though.

So I would have to say that B-52 is of our miltiary aircraft that have served for our US Air Force longer than aircraft you would have ever seen and is still serving us so well as one of our finest bombers in our inventory.

Cool

2 quick points to make here Eagle...

1. I never said which aircraft WILL serve the longest, just which DID serve the longest... Razz

2. I never said in our service, I just said in service. Which means any military service around the world! Wink

gotz to be my beloved Canberra. I think the Auzzies still use some, NASA has one or two ( dont know if that counts as "in service" ) and Big Safari probly still has a few parked out back.

i chose the Mig-15 because they were flown in Korea, and the Vietnamese flew Mig-17's (a modded 15) and I'm pretty sure the Chinese would still be throwing around a few nowadays

CAG
I vote for the Mig15. It has been around since Korea and NK's, China and the former Warsaw Pact have them as trainers or figher bombers.

Regards,
Pappy

Pappy,

Your logic has a few holes....

China and the Warsaw Pact retired them as fighters a long time ago, and the trainer version isnt referred to as the MiG-15 Fagot... Twisted Evil

The MiG-17 isnt a modded MiG-15, its an entirely new design, simply based on information they gained from flying the MiG-15 and experiencing its limits and failures...

The Chinese have no MiG-15 Fagots inservice... Twisted Evil

We have had many more votes, but no new posts.

I wonder if the guests here realize they can respond, as well as vote, in these polls?

Usually I wait until Pappy hounds me for an answer before I close the poll...

But this time he seems to have forgotten to do so! Wink Laughing

Therefore I will let the answer out on my own...

The winning answer to the poll is...

The Canberra! Very Happy

This aircraft has served longer then any other aircraft on the list, entering British service in 1947, just prior to the MiG-15 in Russian service and remaining in service until earlier this year.

So whoever voted for this bird has the winning answer! ...

As to the other options...

There are currently no MiG-15 Fagots in active service, as the only version of the MiG-15, the MiG-15UTI Midget trainer is the only service aircraft. Even the North Koreans have retired their MiG-15's in favor of a MiG-15UTI force they still fly as a trainer and a backup light strike aircraft...

The B-52 didnt enter service before the Canberra, thus she does not qualify...

The UH-1 also entered service in the late 1950s and again does not qualify...

The F-4 entered service in 1960, and as such does not qualify...

SH-3 also entered service in the early 1960s and does not qualify...
