Dec 10th? lol. Darn Squids always slackin off lol. Never thought it would have been so late. I figured a PBY shot one down in self defence during a pre or post Pearl attack patrol.
Do you have anymore info on the incident?
BTW I THINK I was the first to vote PBY lol. _________________ FAF/FA-2 FM Wizard

Kap,
Yes you were indeed the first one to vote PBy and as such the official winner of the Poll! Congrats!
Unfortunately I do not have any additional data, though I am sure plenty exists on the web... Somewhere!

Quote: | While flying to safety during the raid on Cavite, Lieutenant Harmon T. Utter's PBY (VP 101) is attacked by three Japanese Mitsubishi A6M2 Type 0 carrier fighters (ZERO) (3rd Kokutai); Chief Boatswain Earl D. Payne, Utter's bow gunner, shoots down one, thus scoring the U.S. Navy's first verifiable air-to-air "kill" of a Japanese plane in the Pacific War. Utter, as a commander, will later coordinate the carrier air strikes that lead to the destruction of Japanese battleship Yamato (see 7 April 1945). |

Excellent job Kap! I knew you would dig it out...
Wow, how would you like to be known for allowing a PBY to shoot you down to be the first air loss to the USN, when you were in a Zero at the height of Japanese airpower!
