I am guessing here, but I think it was last used in Israeli service so I voted for the Yom Kippur War. |

I think it was the Korean War...
It was probably used by other nations later than Korea, but im still going to make that guess. _________________

We need more people to post their reasons for the vote they choose.
So far we have 6 votes and only 2 responses...
Dissappointing...

No, sorry the Sheridan was a completely independant development for an aluminum armored, air transportable, tank for use by airborne forces...
Actually no other tanks were developed from the Sherman...
But there was plenty of modificiations to the original hulls, especially by the Israelis with their "Super Sherman" versions mounting a French modified 75mm panther tank cannon and a more modern version mounting a 105mm gun.
This vehicle was designated the M51 Super Sherman, and perhaps that is where your confusion for the relation to the M551 Sheridan?
The 75mm panther cannon version was designated M50...

Ok, here is the answer and no one got it right...
WHile it is true that hte Sherman was used in Mechanized formations for the last time in combat by the Israelis in 1973, it wasnt the last time the Sherman was used in combat...
During Operation Iraqi Freedom Invasion of Iraqi in 2003, 2 Iraqi M-4 Sherman Tanks, on display outside the Tank Museum in Iraq, were occupied and used as pillboxes by insurgents. These two tanks had to be knocked out by US Marines, thus ending the last combat by Sherman Tanks in recent history!
